Sierra Edwards ’11 chose Shenandoah because she loved the family atmosphere on campus and being a part of the women’s basketball team. “Choosing SU is choosing a lifelong connection,” said Edwards. “I love that I am still in contact with college friends, professors and staff members.”
Some of Edwards’ fondest memories of the university are playing basketball with her friends, the annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® and graduation. Edwards is still active in the Shenandoah community as a member of the Shenandoah University Black Alumni Network, a newly formed alumni group that came together in 2020.
Edwards is a math teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools in Fairfax, Virginia. In this position, she teaches three courses to students with disabilities, which includes Geometry, Algebra 2 and Algebra Functions & Data Analysis. The most rewarding part of Edwards’ career is teaching young adults how to be successful in our society.
Edwards’ Shenandoah education has prepared her and helped her become successful in her career. “SU taught me how to be multidimensional and strive for other careers within education.” said Edwards.
Edwards’ advice to students is: “Keep reading! There is always room to grow and learn.”
