Aysha Malik ’14 studied Mass Communications at Shenandoah.
Shenandoah gave me the foundation for success. I developed my work ethic, my student mentality and my positive attitude there which have helped me grow quickly in my business. Shenandoah gave me so many experiences and memories that money can never buy, but giving back in my opinion is more about paying it forward. I had the best four years of my life at SU because I learned so much and grew so much, and it’s so important to pass that on to others for the future!”
Malik is currently working as a campaign manager for Baltimore Events located in Laurel, Maryland and Proof Management located in Detroit, Michigan. At both organizations, she represents a portfolio of 20+ clients and markets them through in-store promotions. Malik recently moved to Detroit but will relocate again in a few months to build her business. “The most rewarding part has been the travel opportunities!” She has traveled to Pennsylvania, Texas, Georgia, Delaware, Michigan and Tennessee but her favorite location was Mexico.
When asked why she pursued this line of work, Malik expressed “Communication skills and leadership were two of my biggest strengths at Shenandoah, and I wanted to continue that momentum into a career I could grow with.”
Malik has many fond memories of Shenandoah. “Being crowned Homecoming Queen 2013 will always be one I remember,” she expressed. She was president of the music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota, a member and Founding Father of the Psi Delta chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi and also a member of the national honors society, Alpha Lambda Delta. She was a staff writer for the student newspaper, The ‘Doah, and served as press secretary for the Student Government Association. During her senior year, she interned in SU’s Office of Advancement.
Both of Malik’s parents are entrepreneurs. “They’re the ones who taught me how to work!” expressed Malik. Her brother is a software engineer in Washington, D.C. She enjoys traveling, yoga, blogging, spending time with friends and baking.
Malik is now getting involved with her alma mater to “pay it forward.” She states fondly, “I had an amazing time, and if anything I do can pass that onto another individual, I’m 100% behind it!”
